good samaritan law
Can a person who tries to help someone be sued even if they are successful in saving that persons life? The answer is Yes! Right now there is a case in md where para medics came to the home of a hispanic male and misdiagnosed his condition as “drunk” when in fact he had a cerebral stroke. The Plaintiff the stroke victim alleges the para medics were grossly negligent not merely negligent.
the court has yet to rule on the issue. i am extremely familiar with the facts and law involved in this case. for more information on the good samaritan law contact me at

denver plane crash and traumatic psychic injuries
We want to remember so much and can’t but can we forget bad memories? How do the 100’s of people in denver who got hurt when flight 1404 a continental airways plane went off the run way forget? Could there have been a negligent design flaw in the boeing 737? was it pilot error?
My office has a bilingual staff who can help in matters like this. we speak english and spanish. Forgeting can be just as important as remembering.

multi tasking
npr had a program on multitasking. surprisingly they found that when people try and multi task they make mistakes. We are not as good at it as we think. the brain which is an area of interest to me can not do what we want it to do or as well when we try and multi task.
this comes from research conducted by dr earl miller at MIT

i dead in car accident on Reicherstown rd possible tbi
There was a fatal head on car accident on Reicherstown rd today at the 4400 block of Black rock road and trenton rd. It seems a Honda crv hit a suburu outback. The driver of the suburu was hurt but the passenger died.
In cases like this there are so many injuries to so many people its hard to tell what caused what. In my experience when there is a fatality like this one you can be sure there was a head injury somewhere somehow.
THe honda could very well be at fault say the police. it hit an escalade.
why the driver crossed the yellow line is not known at this time.

mother and 13 year old daughter hit by a car
On tues afternoon dec 16th on Aspen hill road a mother Cristina L DOdd and her daughter Natalia Jallorina of Rockville (my home town) were hit by a car while walking across Bel Pre Road near conn ave.
DOdd was taken to Suburban Hospital, Natalia to childrens hospital. As so often happens in this kind of case the presenting symptoms show severe injuries but the hidden injury could be to the head/brain. Often all too often a traumatic brain injury occurs in this kind of case. The doctors have to keep a close eye on the level of consciousness of the patient and monitor the eyes to detect the tbi.
Frequently its the blow to the head that creates the injury but sometimes its only the rapid movement of the head back and forth. FOr information on tbi my book the medical legal aspects of a brain injury speaks to this kind of situation.

man hit by a train in shady grove in rockville md
at 9;50 am a man was hit by metro train at the shady grove station. in my opinion when a 160 lb man is hit by a train that weighs 5,000 times his weight he will suffer a brain injury in addition to whatever other injuries he suffered. traumatic brain injuries are something that very few people realize until its too late. ths includes dr and hospitals.
as a lawyer i have found that e/r dr’s often ask,”were you unconscious”? People hit don’t know.

phantom limb cure: retraining the brain
I have represented several clients who lost a limb. they to the one say they have pain in the missing limb. i do not doubt that but the defense says they have NO limb so how can they be in pain? well the answer lies so scientists think in “how people think”. we have body maps in the brain. what we have to do is retrain the brain in how the map works. Make the person try and move the missing limb. when they can’t they re wire the brain.

on being aware
MOst of us are aware of what we can see touch smell and taste. Yet there is the awareness of the mind that makes us NOT do something that will get us into trouble. How do we become aware of danger? how do we protect ourselves from acting in a way that can if we are caught bring punishment and or scorn?
we have to come from the heart not the mind. there is a whole school of thinking that says the mind or the ego can fool us. the heart can not.
damaged brain can it change its own structure?
what if you or someone you know has had a traumatic brain injury. don’t you want to believe that the brain like a cut on ones finger can heal itself? Many do not think the brain has this capacity. that is it can’t! Well in a new book by Norman Doidge he claims it can.
I also have heard that harvard researchers make this claim. From my experience dealing with people who have suffered severe traumatic injuries to the brain i support this conclusion
